Natasha Richardson Dies from Skiing Accident

Actress Natasha Richardson, daughter of Vanessa Redgrave, died of injuries she suffered in a skiing accident.  She was only 45.

President Obama to Appear on Jay Leno

Did you know President Obama will be making history tomorrow night when he appears on Jay Leno’s show?   It will be the first time a sitting president has appeared on a late night talk show.

The White House said his appearance will be a chance for the president “to explain the economic situation we’re in”.

Somehow, I believe that may require more than a hour but I’ll be watching and rooting him on!

Penny Smart Gardening

Every year I spend a small fortune on flower plants.  Did my ancestors do that?  No, they grew their own flowers from seed.  Many even saved their own seeds year to year.

My local dollar store has American Seed Company seeds for 10 cents a packet.  That’s right!! 10 cents.  I also found some at Wally World.

Last weekend,  I cut my empty Folger coffee containers in half, filled them with plant soil and sowed my seeds.  This afternoon I could see zinnias popping up, marigolds, sunflowers, asters and alyssum.

Planting herbs is a great way to save a dollar too.  They do really well in containers if you don’t have a lot of garden space.  Last year I placed my herb container right next to the door so I could sample a little mint or parsley every time I walked by.

I even found daffodil bulbs at the dollar store.  I’m going to have my own pot of beautiful yellow sunshine.
