Easter Morning Cake with Boxed Pound Cake Mix

This is an easy cake to put together using a boxed pound cake mix. For a more festive look serve with sliced strawberries. Enjoy!

1 box pound cake
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup soft butter or margarine
1/3 to 1/2 cup of oil
3 tbsps cinnamon

Make cake according to  boxed pound cake mix directions. Spread in a 13x9x2 prepared pan.  

To make crumbs mix flour, sugar,cinnamon and soft butter. Gradually add oil until right consistency. Crumble topping on cake.

Bake 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

Gov Jim Douglas’ Veto Against Gay Marriage Overridden in Vermont

Governor Jim Douglas’ veto against gay marriage was overridden by Vermont Legislature today making Vermont the first state to legalize gay marriage by legislature vote. Governor Jim Douglas had vetoed the bill allowing gays and lesbians to marry on Monday evening.

The vote was 23-5  to override in the state Senate and 100-49 to override in the House. According to Vermont law two-thirds of each chamber had to vote for the override.

The gay victory makes the Green Mountain state the fourth state to permit same-sex marriage.

Murrells Inlet Nanny Accused of Child Abuse-Jurors Selected

12 Horry County South Carolina residents were seated as jurors today and will decide the case of a Murrells Inlet nanny charged with abusing a baby in her care.

Cheryl White, 61 was charged in March 2008 with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and unlawful child neglect after the parents of the child showed a videotape from a home surveillance nanny cam to authorities.

The father of the then 5 month old baby girl, Wesley Locklair, set up the hidden camera after watching a Nancy Grace TV show about nanny abuse

Locklear and his wife, Leslie, hired the Murrells Inlet nanny about 10 weeks before the incident after interviewing several other nannies and running a background check on White.  The background check came back clean.

The Locklears, like so many other parents, thought having a home nanny would be much more beneficial to their baby than a day care facility. They said they suspected something was wrong when they came home early a few times and the baby was lying on the floor in front of the TV.
