Most people don’t realize that even though they choose a  hospital that participates with their insurance company; the doctors at that same hospital may not participate.

If you have no other choice but to go to a hospital with non participating doctors, be sure to appeal any denials you get from your insurance company citing non participation. Explain that you went to a participating hospital in good faith and had no control over the doctors particpation.

Most billing companies are willing to appeal these denials for you but usually a simple phone call from you can do the trick!

Some policies have written clauses stating a patient must be seen by a participating doctor in order get payment. If this is the case, take the time locate a participating hospital with participating doctors beforehand.
