What Generation Do I Belong To? — Silent, Boomer, Gen X?

“What generation do I belong to?” is a question more and more people are asking as popular culture defines new terms. According to the Book Generations by William Strauss and Neil Howe, the generations are defined by the following names and years on the below chart. This would put me in the Boomer Generation and all of my children in the Generation X or Thirteenth generation. Also, did you know the later years of the Baby Boomer generation are called the Jones generation? And sometimes those born before 1946 are referred to as the Silent generation.
Though when considering which generation you belong to, it is important to note that some sociologists consider more than the year in which you were born. Oftentimes it is the generation you most identify with that determines the generation title. In that case, I would like to start identifying with the Millenial generation. That would put me at about 20 something right? Sounds good!
| Era Type | years* | Generation | Gen. Type | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Outer Driven | (1943-1960) | Boom | Idealist | |
| Awakening | (1961-1981) | Thirteenth (Gen X) |
Reactive | |
| Inner Driven | (1982-2001?) | Millennial | Civic | |
| Crisis | (2001?-2222?) | (Homeland?) | Adaptive |
