Cage-Free Chicken Eggs at Wendy’s
Wendy’s announced today that it is starting to use cage-free chicken eggs and the Humane Society of the United States applauded Wendy’s for their new policy.
According to the Humane Society of the United States’ website, the Wendy’s chain is now using a minimum of 2 percent cage-free eggs. All eggs previously used at Wendy’s came from hens in confined “battery cages”.
Paul Shapiro, senior director of The HSUS’s factory farming campaign said,” the Humane Society of the United States applauds Wendy’s for responding to customers concerns about animal welfare and taking this positive step. Wendy’s new policy is reducing the number of birds confined in cruel cages and is sending a clear signal that it’s time for the egg industry to move away from inhumane confinement.”
Cage-free chickens have two to three times more space per bird than caged hens. Cage-free chickens can walk, spread their wings and lay their eggs in nests. Battery cage chickens have no freedom in their crammed cages.
McDonald’s in the United States still use eggs from battery-caged chickens exclusively. A representative of The Humane Society of the United States will be at McDonald’s annual meeting next week to urge their shareholders to approve its resolution asking the company to start switching to cage-free chicken eggs.
I love the McGriddle but I think I’ll frequent Wendy”s while I’m waiting for McDonald’s to change their policy on cage-free chicken eggs.
Banana Bandit in Fond du Lac Wisconsin?

Captain Steve Klein of the Fond du Lac police department said Thursday someone donning an ape costume entered two gas stations Wednesday trying to steal the displays of foam bananas.
Captain Klein said the police want to talk to the person behind the ape suit because they aren’t sure what the suspect’s motives are.
Now, I’m not a cop but if the guy thinks he’s an ape he just might think those foam bananas are real. In the meantime, the citizens of Fond du Lac should keep an eye on their bananas until the would be banana bandit is caught.
Fugitive Mom and 550 Pound Teen Found In MD
The search has ended for the South Carolina Mom and her 550 pound teen who have been missing since Monday. The pair were found washing their clothes Thursday afternoon in a Woodlawn, Md laundry.
Jeri Gray, 49, of Travelers Rest, SC and her son, 14 year old Alexander Draper, were located by the Baltimore County police after officers spotted Gray’s van parked outside a Sudsville commercial laundry.
Lt. Shea Smith of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, said the mother failed to keep a scheduled court appearance Tuesday in Greenville so officials began investigating claims of child neglect and endangerment.
The fugitive Mom is being held at the Woodlawn precinct and the teen was turned over to the county Department of Social Services. He was first examined by Fire Department medics and declared in good health. The 550 pound teen told Baltimore County police he was in the eighth grade and had weight problems his whole life.
