Perfume Spray Blamed for Sudden Illness in Fort Worth

perfumePerfume spray has been blamed for a sudden illness in Fort Worth, Texas that sent 34 people to area hospitals yesterday.

Fire officials initially thought that carbon monoxide or some other toxic fume had made almost 150 people sick at the Bank of America call center.

Lara Kohl, spokesperson for MedStar ambulance, said 34 people were taken to hospitals, 12 by ambulance and an additional 110 people were treated at the scene. Symptoms included dizziness and shortness of breath.

According to Fort Worth fire Lt. Kent Worley, the incident started when two people complained about dizziness after a co-worker sprayed perfume. When an announcement was made that anyone with symptoms should exit the building, others left.

The type of perfume sprayed was not identified but I’m very curious to hear what it was.

Perhaps the perfume spray is to blame for the sudden illness but I have my doubts about whether or not it was the cause of so many people leaving the building.  I hope some of them left just to get a little fresh air!

Seniors 65 and Over on Tail End of H1N1 Swine Flu Vaccination Priority List

shotSeniors 65 and over are on the tail end of the H1N1 swine flu vaccination priority list according to a vote taken today by a government appointed panel of experts.

The advisory committee for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have compiled a list of groups who should be among the first to get the H1N1 vaccine when it becomes available.

Those groups include pregnant women, parents and caretakers of young children, all health care workers, people between the ages of 6 months and 24 years and non-elderly adults with underlying medical conditions.

Should the new vaccine be unexpectedly restricted, the committee recommends an even smaller group to receive priority for the vaccination. This smaller group includes pregnant women, household contacts of children under the age of 6, only health care workers with direct exposure to infected patients or to the virus, children between 6 months and 4 years of age and those ages 5 to 18 with underlying factors.

After the priority groups listed, healthy people through the ages of 25 and 64 would be next in line for the vaccine.

Seniors over 65 are at the tail end of the H1N1 swine flu vaccination priority list because the committee says based on the science of the pandemic so far there have been far fewer cases of swine flu in this elderly group.

familyAnother Republican sex scandal has led to the resignation of Tennessee Senator Paul Stanley.

Senate speaker, Ron Ramsey, announced this afternoon that Senator Paul Stanley has resigned from the State Senate, effective August 10. The announcement came exactly one week after news of the sex scandal first broke.

Stanley told agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation that he had sexual relations with legislative intern, Mckensie Morrison. A Clarksville, Tn man apparently tried to blackmail the senator with nude photos of the 22 year old intern taken in Stanley’s Nashville apartment.

Senator Stanley is 47  and his family includes his wife and 2 children. In his written letter of resignation Stanley said,”I have decided to focus my attention on my family and resign my Senate seat effective August 10, 2009.”

Another Republican scandal and another guy who’s decided to consider his family after he’s caught and the damage is done.
