A new study shows beetroot juice for stamina can help men work out for 16 per cent longer!
Apparently, the scientists believe the nitrates in the juice help the body to deplete less of its oxygen reserve leaving the exercisers less tired.
The team study was led by Professor Andy Jones of the University of Exeter’s School of Sport and Health Sciences. He said, “We were amazed by the effects of beetroot juice on oxygen uptake because these effects cannot be achieved by any other known means, including training.
The study team believes that nitrates in the juice could be turning into nitric oxide in the body, reducing the “oxygen cost” associated with exercise.
It was also noted that the eight men, aged 19 to 38, involved in the beetroot test also had lower resting blood pressure.
The researchers hope to look at other foods that are nitrate rich to see if they have the same effect as beetroot juice for stamina.
