A AK-47 was raffled off at a South Carolina Republican political rally in Greenville Saturday.
The candidate, Dean Allen, is aiming to be the next adjutant general. That’s the person who leads the state’s National Guard.
Around 500 people paid $25 for barbecue, a clip of bullets for target practice and the chance to win the semiautomatic. There was however, a stipulation that whoever won the AK-47 at the “machine- gun social” would have to undergo a background check.
What do you do with a AK-47 anyway? I know you don’t shoot squirrels with it. Why do we need them in our homes and on the streets?
I live in South Carolina but lately I have not been proud of the headlines my state is making. Mark Sanford, Joe Wilson , a AK-47 raffled at a political rally and the year’s not even over yet!

Host on The View Program Slams Paula Deen
Barbara Walters, host on The View program, slammed guest Paula Deen on Tuesday when she accused her of pushing fattening foods onto children.
The out going and out spoken, Paula, appeared on “The View” to promote her new cookbook, “Paula Deen’s Cookbook for the Lunchbox Set.” The coffee table in front of the interview sofa was laden with Paula’s goods; strawberry cake, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, blueberry and oatmeal muffins to name a few.
Barbara almost stopped Paula cold when she said, “This is a cookbook for kids. Obesity is the No.1 problem for kids today. Everything you have here is enormously fattening. You tell kids to have cheesecake for breakfast. You tell them to have chocolate cake and meatloaf for lunch, and french fries. Doesn’t it bother you that you’re adding to this?”
Paula may have batted one eyelash but continued right on with a defensive statement about all things in moderation. The other View hosts continued to gorge themselves on all the goodies Paula offered. I think they had all missed breakfast.
I love Paula Deen. She may be out to make a dime but basically she’s just a good ole girl. As host on The View program, Barbara should have gnawed on her chicken bone and kept quiet.
