cigsCan third hand smoke harm your family and what exactly is it?

Everyone is aware of secondhand smoke. Smoke you can actually see wafting through the air. Most smokers and non smokers are aware of the dangers of secondhand smoke. What we are just beginning to learn about is third hand smoke.

Third hand smoke is what we smell when we stand next to a smoker. It’s the term used to describe the invisible toxic mixtures of gases and particles clinging to smokers’ hair and clothing. It includes heavy metals, carcinogens and even radioactive materials.

If a smoker thinks he is doing his family a favor by only smoking when he is alone in a room or in the car, think again. Third hand smoke stays in the room’s carpets and draperies. It clings to the upholstery in your car. It’s on your shirt when you lift your baby to hold.

As an ex smoker myself, I know how hard and uncomfortable it is to quit smoking. There are, however, wonderful stop smoking programs and stop smoking aids available to ease the challenge.

Can third hand smoke harm your family? Are you willing to take the chance?
