One of the world’s largest biopharmaceutical companies, Pfizer, has initiated a new free of charge meds program for the unemployed.
The company announced yesterday the new program, MAINTAIN, will help jobless Americans and their families who have lost their health insurance.
Those who qualify will receive free medicine for up to 12 months or until they become re-insured. More than 70 primary care medicines will be available through the program.
Eligibility requirements include
-Loss of employment since January 1, 2008
-Prescribed and taking a Pfizer medicine for at least 3 months prior to
becoming unemployed and enrolling in the program
-Can attest to financial hardship
The idea for the free of charge meds program was submitted by Pfizer employees. Pfizer employees are also donating their own money to the program and Pfizer is matching those donations.
