dcPresident Barack Obama’s senior advisor David Axelrod appeared on the NBC program “Meet the Press”  Sunday and said the president  has written to the family of Michael Jackson.

When asked why Obama had yet to speak publicly about Jackson’s sudden death last week, Axelrod said: “the president has written the family and has shared his feelings with the family.”

“He felt it was the appropriate way to go,” Axelrod said.

More respect was paid to Michael Jackson on Friday by the U.S. House of Representatives when the lawmakers stood in silence in honor of the “King of Pop.”

Rep. Diane Watson of California rose during a debate on the global warming bill and suggested the House “pay tribute to the culture that he has left behind, his legacy.”

Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Illinois said the singer changed the world and he wants to “thank God for letting all of us live in his generation and in his era.”

The pop star icon, Micahel Jackson, was 50 years old when he died Thursday in Los Angeles after suffering cardiac arrest.
