You have probably heard of the Master Cleanse diet which includes lemonade, cayenne pepper and grade b maple syrup. After all, it has been around for decades and was started in the 40′s by an alternative practitioner, Stanley Burroughs. But it seems there is a resurgence of it’s popularity with celebrities rediscovering it’s health and weight loss benefits.

Recently Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher Twittered about their Master Cleanse experience and how they are giving their bodies the nutrition they say it needs.

Apparently, the master cleanse was designed to increase energy, immunity and mental clarity but a very positive side effect was large amounts of weight loss. Since then, celebrities like Beyonce, Robin Quivers from the Howard Stern show, and Liv Tyler have used versions of the cleanse to get ready for roles or the red carpet.

Even dancers are getting in on the diet too. Kym Johnson from Dancing with the Stars (she won with Donny Osmond) uses the pill form of the cleanse. With the lemonade diet pill form, she can keep her trim, healthy figure but not have to drink ten glasses of lemonade every day so apparently that works best for her.

Lemonade, Cayenne Pepper, Maple Syrup? Why?

Why lemons, cayenne pepper and maple syrup? Burroughs explained back in the 40′s about the cleansing properties of lemons to help eliminate toxins from your body. Sort of like cleaning out the parts of a car engine. And we have heard all about the fat burning properties of cayenne peppers. The maple syrup, specifically grade b, is important because it provides vitamins and nutrients to sustain the body during the cleanse. On the original cleanse, no food was consumed. With the pill form of the lemonade cleanse, there is an eating plan that goes along with it so that the when you come off the cleanse, you wont binge and gain all your weight back.

With all diets, from the cabbage soup, to the grapefruit, to the banana diet…we see them come and go. But the Master Cleanse is one that has been around a long time and seems to have some merit to it’s weight loss claims. Grab some lemonade, cayenne pepper and grade b maple syrup to give it a try it for yourself.
