Here’s another good reason to stop smoking. Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tn. has ended the hiring of tobacco users.

According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, the Vice President of Memorial said the decision is an extension of the hospital’s commitment to health and is not based on potential health care cost savings.

The new hiring rule will not affect current employees of Memorial but any form of nicotine will cause  applicants ineligible to be hired. Nicotine gum or the patch are also included as a form of nicotine.

A posting on the hospital’s website states applicants who have been offered jobs but test positive for tobacco will not be hired and may be disqualified for reapplying for six months.

If you’re still addicted to cigarettes, consider this just another good reason to stop smoking.
