beefWe have yet another salmonella tainted meat recall to deal with. This latest one involves 22,723 pounds of ground beef.

Beef Packers Inc.of Fresno, California is pulling the meat because of a possible link to salmonellosis. Beef Packers is owned by Cargill, Inc. This is Cargill’s second recall this year.

The products being recalled include 60 pound cases of “GRD Beef fine 93/0710/60.” Each case bears the identifying case code W69363 with Use/Freeze dates of 10/11/09.

The products were produced Sept. 23 and bear the establishment number “EST 31913″ printed on case code labels.

The meat was sent to a distribution center in Arizona, repackaged and sold under different retail brand names. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food safety and Inspection Service says consumers should check with local retailers to determine whether they may have purchased any of the recalled beef.

FSIS officials say the ground beef has been linked to 2 illnesses.

Beef Packers spokesman, Mark Klein, says the company initiated this  latest salmonella tainted meat recall voluntarily and is “taking the matter seriously.”
