A new vaccine to cure your cigarette smoking habit is entering phase III of a promising study.
The U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse has appropriated 10 million dollars for the research of an anti-nicotine vaccine.
The vaccine is designed to help people quit smoking and not relapse. It has received “fast track” designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and has passed a successful “proof-of-concept” study, according to institute director Dr. Nora D. Volkow.
Researchers expect the vaccine will be effective for six to twelve months after it is given. They have reported few side effects.
Phase III of the study for the potential vaccine, NicVAX, will be started by a pharmaceutical company in Maryland.
There is no guarantee the study will prove that the vaccine works nor whether or not it will receive federal approval.
Hopefully, this new vaccine to cure your cigarette smoking habit will become a reality. In the meantime, there are proven, effective stop smoking aids available to help you now. It’s a battle that can be won!
