At a family barbecue in 2007, 22 year old Stephanie Smith ate a E.coli tainted  hamburger that was sold at Sam’s Club and processed by Cargill. Stephanie ultimately became so ill she was put into a drug-induced coma to save her life. She was in that coma for three months.

Stephanie, a children’s dance instructor, has already reached up to $2 million in medical bills and according to her attorney, Bill Marler, will likely require constant care and medical attention the rest of her life.

“You look at what Stephanie Smith went through, which is nine months of hospitalization, she’s still in rehab to gain more strength, she’s severely brain damaged, she can’t walk, she can’t have children, she’s going to lose her kidneys,” Marler said. ” What she lived for was to dance, and she’ll forever be wheelchair bound.

As seen in this video about her ordeal and E.coli, Stephanie says she is still hopeful to one day dance again.
